Pub Walks in Nottinghamshire
We are including in this website a series of walks
in Nottinghamshire that feature pubs listed on this
site. At present most of these walks are in the
Southwell area but this will be extended later in
the year 2002. If you know of a good walk starting
at one of the pubs or inns listed on this site please
send the details to pubwalks@nottspubs.co.uk
Burton Joyce, Bulcote and the River Trent
A 4½ mile walk, part by the river Trent. The walk starts and
finishes through the sprawling village of Burton Joyce and
takes in the almost unspoilt hamlet of Bulcote.
Calverton, Woodborough and Lambley
This 8 mile walk is through typical Nottinghamshire
countryside and passes through three villages of
historical importance for framework knitting although
Calverton was influenced by the coal industry when
the hosiery industry declined.
East Bridgford and the River Trent
A 4 mile walk part by the river Trent. Although
care should be taken when the river is high as part
of the path could be impassable and at other times
muddy, it provides many varied aspects throughout
the walk.
Gunthorpe and the River Trent
This short, four mile walk is part along the Trent,
passes several pubs including one frequented by
Dick Turpin with its own microbrewery.
Laxton and Moorhouse
This 5½ mile walk starts at Laxton, one of the historically
most important villages in Nottinghamshire with
its open field system of farming. This walk is particular
beautiful in spring when the primroses are out.
Nottingham - The Original Ghost Walks
These run every Saturday at 7pm (except December)
from the Salutation Inn, they take about 1¼ hours
and are about 1mile long. They cost £4 and
£2 for children.
Oxton and Robin Hood Hill
This four mile walk takes you to Oldox camp, one of
the largest remaining hill forts in Nottinghamshire
with good views over the surrounding countryside.
Southwell and Westhorpe
A five mile walk through the pretty hamlet of Westhorpe
on the edge of the historic town of Southwell.
Westhorpe was once associated with the frame knitting
industry. Part of the walk is along paths know
to exist prior to 956 AD.
Upton and Micklebarrow Hill
A four mile walk through the Trentside countryside
and close to Southwell racecourse, part of the walk
follows the Trent Valley Way.
