Colston Bassett is some 5 miles south of Bingham and this area is famous for its Stilton cheese. Once used to hold its own weekly market and there is an old Market Cross near the old post office, with the Martin Arms nearby. At the time of the Civil war, Manor farm was the home of the Hacker family where different family members supported the opposing sides. In the nearby park is the old church which fell into disuse when the Victorian church with its grand spire was build in 1892.
The Martin Arms at Colston Bassett is a beautiful country inn in a delightful village has a well deserved reputation throughout Nottinghamshire for the quality and variety of its food. it has a superb atmosphere and is furnished with antique furniture. Although the bar and restaurant food is not cheap, it is the ideal venue for a special occasion. Food can be eaten in the small but charming restaurant as well as the cosy bar. Children over 14 only in the dining areas. Good range of real ales including Black Sheep and Bass from hand pumps. There is an attractive lawned area to the front of the pub. Well worth a visit. One of our favorites.
