Selston is a large ex-colliery and industrialised village on the Alfreton to Nottingham road. With its elevated position over the Erewash valley, it has good views over the surrounding countryside now scarred with industrial activity. The old church dates back to an earlier time with a 12th century incised slab dedicated to a priest.
The Horse and Jockey at Selston is claimed to be England''s 14th oldest pub. Recently refurbished to a high standard but still retains some of its original character including its original beams to compliment the stone floors and open fires.. Free house with up to six cask beers, two from the jug. Food available lunchtimes, weekdays only. Worth a visit.
