The quiet, secluded village of Normanton-on-Trent is about 4 miles South East of Tuxford, just North of the A1. There are several houses dating back to the late 17th century, including the brick built Grange on the High Street. The church dates back to the 14th century.

The Square and Compass sells a good range of real ales and is now run by Kenny and Fran Munro (previously of the Great Northern Inn at Carlton on Trent). Their beers includes Lions Pride and Brew Brittannia, both award winning beers brewed by the Mapole Brewery at Eakring (also owned by Kenny). They also serve four other real ales. There is a good sized garden with a large childrens'' play area. There is also en-suite accomodation:- two double rooms and one single. Serves a wide range of good value food in the bar and restaurant. Sun lunch is served 12 to 8pm!.
