Kirkby in Ashfield is a heavily industrialised town with sprawling suburbs, mainly Victorian but now there are some modern estate housing developments. Local industries included textiles and in the past, coal mining. There is little of historic interest in the town. The church dates back to the early 1900's replacing the ancient church burnt down on the site in 1907.
