Laxton Pubs and Inns
The Motte and Baliey castle is one of the examples in Nottinghamshire. It was probably built by John de Caux just shortly after the Norman conquest in 1066. There was a ditched mound with a timber tower on top. It had two independent enclosures, baileys through which the tower was reached.

Laxton, with its unique medieval open field farming system, its castle and its great pub, is one of our favourite Nottinghamshire villages.

Laxton Visitors Centre, Laxton, Newark, NG22 0NU. Although compact, is well worth a visit. It is next to the Dovecote Inn.
