Lowdham is a large village on the A612 between Nottingham and Southwell. The dual carriageway to the north and Doncaster (A6097) now cuts the old village to be found on the north west off from the modern development that is parallel to the dual carriageway. The old church and the castle mound are to the west of the bypass. St Mary's church dates back to before the 14th century.
To the north east of the bypass can be found the attractive Lowdham Mill. There is now little sign of the frame knitting industry that was important in this area in the 19th century. In 1844 there were 94 stocking frames working in Lowdham. There are some attractive walks from the village.
The Mgna Carta at Lowdham has been renovated in the modern style over recent years. Its position on the Nottingham to Southwell Road near Lowdham Island makes it a popular meeting and eating place, particularly for families. Food is good value.
The Worlds End at Lowdham is traditional pub is tucked away retaining a lot of character. Just off the dual carriage way, and tucked away you can easily find it as you will see it from the main road by its flag post! Although small, it serves a good range of beers and food.
