The riverside village of Farndon is just off the A46 Fosse road some 2 miles south of Newark dates to Roman times. Although there are large areas of estate housing, the old part of the village is worth exploring. On the north wall of the church of St Peter's can be seen Saxon or early Norman herringbone masonary.
The village is popular spot for boating and angling and there are some good riverside walks with excellent views. The Britannia was built in 1763 and was frequently visited by Trent barge operators. Until recent years, there used to be a ferry across the Trent from Farndon to Rolleston.
The Britannia at Farndon is a popular pub situated by the side of the river Trent and provides a wide range of foods and good beers. Its location makes it popular in summer.
