Carlton on Trent is about 6 miles north of Newark on Trent just off the A1 dual carriageway. The Great North Road used to pass through the village but it is now bypassed by the A1, and is now a quiet attractive village that connects with the next village Sutton on Trent. The Trent can be easily reached from the village. The church with its lofty spire was built in 1851. Carlton Hall was built in 1765
