Upton is an attractive village on the A612 between Southwell and Newark. St Peter's church was built in the13th century and restored in the 19th century. The square tower has nine pinnacles.Although the old post office (thatched) is now closed, the village has two good pubs.
Cross Keys at Upton is a charming village pub with low beams and lots of atmosphere. This pub changed ownership a few years ago and is still struggling to get back its previous excellent reputation for good beers and food, particularly with strong competition from nearby pubs. However, there have been signs of substantial improvements in recent months and the new landlord is making an effort to provide a good range of high quality pub food. It is a pub to keep an eye on.
