Aslockton is 3 miles east of Bingham. This village is famous for Thomas Cranmer, born in 1489. Subsequently educated at Cambridge, He was selected in 1533 by Henry VIII to be Archbishop of Caneterbury and on gaining office pronounced the marriage between Henry VIII and Catherine of Aragon null and void. He is responsible for the drafting of much of the Common Prayer book. Cranmer's mound to the east of St. Thomas's church is a Norman motte close to the site of the manor house where Thomas Cranmer was born.
The Cranmer Arms at Aslockton is a traditional, basic pub with pub games, skittles, beer garden and basket meals. Childrens meals. Garden with play equipment.
The Old Greyhound at Aslockton is a traditional, somewhat basic but friendly village pub. Good range of good value pub food. Bar food from Baguettes and baked potatoes £3.95 up.
