Newton

The charming village of Newton dates from at least the 8th century and is a small group of houses nestling in a pleasant valley. The church of St Botolph still retains signs of its Norman origins. In the 16th century, much of the land around the village was owned by Sir Robert Carre of Sleaford and was used like one enormous sheep walk. Sir Robert, became one of the wealthiest commoners in England through is gains in the wool trade. Metal tokens bearing names of 14th and 15th century German wool traders have been found in near the village. There is a village cross near the church. There are good walks in the surrounding countryside. Feral herds of Fallow deer roam the countryside.
