Shardlow
The village of Shardlow is on the A6, 6 miles south east of
Derby but its character is derived from Mersey canal opened
in 1777 that also passes through the village and the river Trent
The village was mentioned in the Domesday book in as Serdelav.
Up until 1760 there was a rope hauled ferry which was replaced
by the Cavendish Bridge. Steeped with canal history, it is a
popular stopping off place for canal travelers with its busy
pubs and restaurants. The village has a marina connected to
the Trent and its own canal basin.
