About 2
miles south of Sudbury, this rambling hotel (AA three
stars) sells a range of real ales including Bass and
Ruddles County. Good value bar food and restaurant.
The old part of the hotel dates back to the 17th century
and was originally part of the Vernon Estate. The
Boar's Head is reputed to have been lost by one of
Lord Vernon's ancestors in a card game!

a small village on A56 about 5 miles east of Uttoxeter in the
lower valley of the river Dove. Sudbury Hall (National
Trust) dates from the 1660 - 70's was once the seat of the Vernon
family.
