The Clock
Warehouse is so called as there was once a clock adorning
the front of the building. The building built in 1780
now completely refurbished dominates the western basin.
There are channels underneath which let barges load
and unload easily. This popular pub serves good family
food and can get very busy in summer. There is a skittle
alley and nearby there is a Heritage Centre.

Busy 17th
century pub with interesting bric a brac. There are
low beams with tankards hanging from the ceiling.
Good range of real ales and wide choice of good value
food. The pub is very close to the Derbyshire / Leicestershire
border. There is a large car park at the rear and
a children's play area. Well worth a visit.

Shardlow
The village
of Shardlow is on the A6, 6 miles south east of Derby and 3 miles
from Juntion 24 of the M1. Sharlow's character is derived from
Mersey canal opened in 1777 that also passes through the village
and the river Trent. It was once the hub of canal and river traffic
in the Midlands.
The village was mentioned in the Domesday book in as Serdelav.
Up until 1760 there was a rope hauled ferry that was replaced
by the Cavendish Bridge. Steeped with canal history, it is still
a popular stopping off place for canal travellers with its busy
pubs and restaurants and there are many others not listed here
worth a visit. Shardlow has a marina connected to the Trent and
its own canal basin.
