The Quiet Woman pub is reputed to be over 400 years old and was in the occupation of the the Heathcote family for over 300 years. The name is unusual with only two others in the country. It is said to refer to a too talkative woman who was decapitated as a consequence! Traditional and unspoilt , it is a somewhat basic village pub with hard seats and plain tables. There is limited food includes sandwiches and home made pork pies. Good range of well kept real ales. Well worth a visit. You can also buy local produce such as cheese and eggs from the pub.

Earl Sterndale

The small village of Earl Sterndale is some five miles south of Buxton and lies at 1100 ft in the National Park. The church of St. Michael dates back to 1828 and has a Saxton font. In 1941 the church was almost destroyed buy incendary bombs but was subsequently rebuilt.
