The Plough Inn, Brackfield
Situated on the A615 which bybasses Brackenfield, this 16th century Grade II listed stone pub was once a farmhouse. Freehouse with good range of real ales and good food. Well worth a visit.

Brackenfield

The pretty village of Brackenfield is just off the A615 and was known as Brackenthwaite in medieval times. There is a green at the center of the village which used to have a stream and many wells. On Bank Holiday weekends, the village holds a well dressing event. Infamous characters from the village include Samuel Mather - a local sheep thief hunged and then buried at Tansley common crossroads and William Pugh who murdered Lizzie Boot at Linfield farm in the village in 1896! Ogston Reservoir is to the North.
