The Druid, Birchover

Very popular dining pub, very friendly and helpful staff, even when busy. This delightful creeper clad country inn has two restauarants (one non-smoking) and servers a wide range of dishes including a vegitarian menu. This Inn is one of our favourites. There is a good selection of real ales including Druid from the Leatherbriches brewery. Children welcome. Well worth a visit. Very popular during summer weekends and has a large car park.. There is a small , patiio area with garden sets with a good view. On the other side of the road is the Millenium Stone and there is an easy walk up to the Nine Ladies Stone Circle on Stanton Moor.

Birchover

The small village of Birchover is some 6 miles South of Bakewell. The Nine Ladies Stone Circle is to the North of the village. This is a Bronze age stone circle some 33 feet in diameter. The legend goes that each stone represents village maidens who were turned to stone for dancing on the Sabath.

Nine Ladies Stone Circle

The large accompanying King's Stone is thought to represent a fiddler who suffered the same fate as the maidens! Nearby is the Earl Grey Tower erected as a tribute to Earl Grey who carried the Reform Bill through Parliment in 1832. There are many delightful walks in this area.
